[Here’s a link back to the original post about this project on my personal blog.]
Ok, so this isn’t exactly WordPress related – or web development related but it’s been a fun project at playing around with personal life documentation using Google Maps, so I’m going to post it here as well for those who are more blogging than development inclined.
I picked up a book of art postcards in a local store a week or two back and decided that instead of letting them gather dust at home I’d post them out to those in my network who were interested.
It happens, that in these days of fibre-optics, my network extends to rather far flung places and happily a number of people in these places were keen to play along, so cards have been dispatched to Europe, the US, Japan, New Zealand, Great Britain, and of course, locally and interstate, here in Australia.
I probably should have documented what cards were sent where but I was too busy trying to keep my handwriting legible to think about how to record the project fully… though in the course of writing the addresses down, I did in fact, create a map of where the cards were going on Google.

As the plot thickened I started receiving offers of cards in return, and so just for fun I’m updating the map with images of the return postcards as they’re sent to me, posting them also via Pinterest* which is a rather nice place to show off fabulous images of such things.
Here’s the first return postcard – from Tasmania, Australia. I’ll post the others as they arrive, just for curiosity’s sake!
*While I’m asking thinking about it, are you on Pinterest? (It’s a visual social bookmarking site, a virtual pinboard really – useful for inspiration boards, documenting ideas and styles one likes, wants to remember/keep/share)
I have the obligatory boards of pretty things and food pr0n, frankly, there’s lots about Pinterest that’s a bit girlier than I am … but also I’ve a board documenting the craft beers I’ve tried and occasional reviews thereof, and a board of infographics I like… and in the future I’ll likely create more boards of cool web tech and gadgets as I get time… so if you’re on it and want to follow me… my profile is here
I’m in…love the idea….will send you my address…I’ll send you back the ugliest Surfers Paradise post card I can find 😛
