Beating Imposter Syndrome

August 31, 2015 by Dee Teal

In one of our recent WordPress Melbourne meetups the theme for the evening was Imposter Syndrome.

You know what I mean by that, right? That nagging feeling that you’re just not quite up to scratch. It’s the feeling that holds you back from putting yourself out there for bigger, better challenges. It will cripple you as you compare yourself to others.

I was one the lineup to speak that night, and in between two of the legends of WordPress in Australia, Peter Wilson and Gary Pendergast.

I think to some degree we all try beating imposter syndrome, it’s challenging, and as our careers progress I feel like we beat it in some areas as our confidence increases, but even the people we look up to as successful can be affected by it as well. The meetup was put together so that as people who we look up to confess to imposter syndrome, maybe it might just help us all get past that horrible little voice in our own heads.

You can see/hear the talks here, these are the slides for my part of the talk ‘Imposter Syndrome is Costing you Money’.
