Mac Web Development Tools in my toolkit – Local Tools

January 9, 2014 by Dee Teal

In the process of updating this site's theme, (if you're reading via RSS, head over for a squizz... it's looking all brand spanking new over here!!) I have been tidying up my blog archives and came across a post I never finished; one that included a list of all the Mac web development tools in my toolkit. It was pretty out of date, so I thought I'd revisit it and write up a list of my current tools.  I'm also interested in yours... what's in your toolbox? I'd love to know where we intersect … [Read more...]

ACF Repeater Fields – Adding Classes to List Items

September 23, 2013 by Dee Teal

In this quick tutorial I'm using  Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) repeater fields to turn out an array of photos and text that link to PDF files (brochures)... and I'm using the genesis grid settings to lay them out nicely (by adding class="one-third" to the list items). The thing is, for the genesis grid to work you have to add a class of 'first' on the first list item in every row as well... so I need to set up a counter to count the list items and add a class to the first and every third ... … [Read more...]

How to Link Widget Titles Without a Plugin

September 19, 2013 by Dee Teal

So, in this game from time to time you get thrown a curveball. Some beautiful design feature that doesn't have a natural easy flowing way of working in WordPress. Here's the scenario. This design has lovely images that are also links, in the sidebar. The titles for said widget are overlaid on the images, and thus also need to be links. Now, in the interests of making things easy for the end user we're working with a fabulous little plugin called Image Widget. This offers a really easy … [Read more...]

When WordPress Goes to the Beach

August 27, 2013 by Dee Teal

One of the extraordinary things I've observed about the WordPress community in Australia is that it's more than just a group of people connected around this awesome software, they're actually a great big collection of friends. I would love to travel a bit more to other WP communities around the world just to see if what we have really is unique.  I hope it isn't, I'd love to think there are other groups of WP users out there who get as much fun out of just hanging out over beers and pizza as … [Read more...]

Beginning with WordPress – Installing WordPress Manually

August 19, 2013 by Dee Teal

So, there you are – sitting looking at a couple of emails: one with the keys to your domain name, one with the keys to your website, and now you’re going to have to get your act together and actually put WordPress on your site but you really don’t know where to go next. Well, you have two options: You can use an automatic installer (usually provided by your web host, something like Fantastico, Softaculous, or Installatron). You can install it yourself. Now, because this series is about … [Read more...]
