It’s a miracle… the Web Princess has her very own signature Big Bang Theory clip…

Festive Seasonal Thoughts

I’ve spent the last 3 weeks tripping around New Zealand… so thankful for the benefits of being a freelancer and having a laptop and 3g phone… To date I’ve worked in a Christchurch bedroom, a TranzAlpine train, a 1975 VW Kombi Westfalia camper van, the Overlander train from Auckland to Wellington and the offices of Instinct Entertainment, home of the WP Ecommerce plugin, among other places.
Yep, I know, hard life…
Genesis Theme Framework for Beginners

First half of this post is a recap of my WordCamp Presentation…. but follows up with resources…
First, if you want to make sense of the resources, you need to get Genesis… help a girl out and pick it up via this link StudioPress Themes for WordPress – or the one over there in the right hand column of the page… there’s a good chap! then, when you’ve got it installed, come back here…
…s’ok… I can wait…
…
Thanks
Now, here’s where you go to learn all about it…
Maximising WordCamp Gold Coast – Three keys

I realise by writing a title like the above I could be mistaken for a WordCamp veteran… This would not be the case as actually, I’ve only been to one, WordCamp Melbourne which happened earlier this year. I did however come away from that event completely inspired and challenged by the possibilities of both the software and the WordPress community so in the intervening time I think it’s safe to say I’ve done a reasonable amount of work to maximise my understanding of WordPress and to strengthen my personal connections to other WordPress users. So much so that I’ll be at this next WordCamp on the Gold Coast as a speaker. (I know, don’t these people know me? Oh goodness…)
Now… did you see that? That attitude is exactly why, while I got a lot out of WordCamp Melbourne, I didn’t get more.
Creativity Explained

I had the privilege of attending a book launch last night for a book whose website I put together, and I feel compelled to share a little here because I think the book is a powerful tool for people like many of us whose livelihoods are dependent on our creativity.
The book is called ‘Living with a Creative Mind‘ and it’s a handbook for creatives on how to manage our internal worlds and to provide understanding for those who live/work/hang out with us who may not see the world in quite the same way as we artistic types do. In all it’s a book about being able to live a long healthy creative life with strong healthy relationships. And frankly, it’s absolutely fascinating.
Good to do Good

There seem to be amazing people doing extraordinary things wherever I look, actually, I’m genuinely overawed by them on a regular basis. I have a friend teaching children in Kazakhstan, I know people who packed up their life and moved to a slum in the Philippines to change the lives of hundreds, and hundreds of people, and that’s just two stories. So many others, so many incredible projects/missions/causes. Yes, some of them overseas, but also some who are much closer to home.
I could never have been one of those people. I admit it… I’m just not built to be that selfless. I would complain, I would cry myself to sleep… I would… be miserable… But not them, their joy is in what they’re doing and I think that’s amazing [and, perhaps, a bit crazy].
Here’s the thing, it’s ok that I’m not like them.
Breach of Security – Popups – Joomla Site

Dang, don’t you hate it when you get a panicked phone call from a client advising their site’s been hacked? Yeah, me too. It TOTALLY blows… especially when you’ve got way more important things to do than sift through an install to find the offending code… As you may have gathered I got one such [...]
Creating a Child Theme for WordPress

Part two of Tuesday’s lightning talk revolved around the process of creating child a theme for WordPress. The benefit of child themes is that you’re separating your changes to a theme you’re modifying from the original; and if things go wrong with your code (as it is known to do from time to time) then you’ve always got the original as back up (but if you’re smart you’re keeping updated backups when you write new code anyway, right?? Yeah.. right). So creating a child theme is basically a non-destructive way to customise and modify an existing theme.
Creating a child theme is a really simple process.
Choosing WordPress Themes
I was presented at the Sydney WordPress meetup last night on choosing WordPress Themes and then, having procured said themes, creating child themes.
Here’s the basic gist of the first message. I’ll post the child theming post tomorrow
Choose your themes wisely.
For me, the imperatives when choosing themes are:
